Bob and Anne's Family History

LATEST : 4 May 2008 - Calvert tree updated with ancestors of Abraham Shaw (1785-1857).
The site contains family history information relating to my and my wife's ancestors.

The Calverts are centred around Great Harwood in East Lancashire. (although one branch seems to have spent time in Ireland and others emigrated to USA and Tasmania ). There are links here to Barons, Hindles, Hargreaves and Shaw families.

The Browns are my mother's family and are from Sheffield/Lincolnshire.

The Churchhouses (my wife's family) lived in Preston, although one branch lived on a canal boat and travelled the Lancaster canal between Preston and Kendal.

The Yeates (my wife's maternal family) latterly lived around Preston, although they came from Gloucestershire via a circuitous route (read The Railway Children on the Yeates pages for the story).

Not part part of my own or my wife's ancestry is the Heywood and Kitching tree. They are the maternal ancestors of my cousins. They are latterly Great Harwood families but the Kitchings appear to have come from the Chipping area, and the Heywoods from Leyland.

My interest in family history is relatively recent although my sister, Barbara, did quite a bit of research back using parish records in the 1960's. This was lost, however, with her death in 1984 .

The site has been built using minimal graphics for fast download, however your browser does need to support frames as navigation relies on a side-bar . I intended to use GIF files for the pictorial family trees, however as the size of the trees grew the quality reduced until they were almost unreadable. So the trees are now PDF (Portable Document Format) files, which means they are much larger and you will need some means of viewing them, either Adobe's Acrobat Reader (which can integrate with browsers) or some other PDF viewer. The quality, however, is much better and the detail can be viewed by zooming in on the area of interest.

If I make significant changes to the site, that is changes that add people to the family trees (or even delete them if it turns out I got something wrong), I'll flag it up under the "LATEST" headline at the top of this page. The "Site History" page will give more information. Cosmetic changes and minor alterations won't be flagged.
